Maintenance for Copper and Silver
Regular polishing is key for both silver and copper cuffs, but copper tends to oxidize faster. A standard jewelry polishing cloth works well to keep both materials gleaming.
Tarnish Tidbits:
Tarnish on sterling silver is a natural oxidation process that occurs when the silver comes into contact with elements in the air, primarily sulfur. This chemical reaction creates a thin layer on the surface of the silver. While tarnish doesn't harm the integrity of the silver, it can impact the aesthetic appeal. Regular cleaning and proper storage help mitigate tarnishing.
Embrace the patina that develops on copper over time, or use a jewelry polishing cloth or copper cleaner, such as Wright's Copper Cream, for a polished look.
Consistent care delays tarnishing for both metals:
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent tarnishing
Consider storing in airtight containers or anti-tarnish bags to minimize exposure to air
Avoid chemical exposure: remove your cuffs before applying lotions, perfumes, or engaging in activities that involve chemicals to prevent damage
Do not wear in the shower or when swimming
When handling your cuff, always use clean hands to avoid transferring oils and dirt onto the metal surface
Avoiding Green Marks:
Copper may leave harmless green marks on skin due to a reaction with skin acids. Some people have a more pronounced reaction than others due to their body chemistry. This is a normal process. You may apply clear nail polish on the inner surface as a barrier. Copper has antimicrobial properties, reducing the growth of bacteria.
Adjusting for each metal:
All of our cuffs are tumbled for hours to increase strength and durability, however:
How to put a cuff bracelet on:
Caution: Avoid flexing the cuff open and closed, as this can weaken the metal over time and lead to eventual breakage. Use the suggested sliding and rotating method to preserve the integrity of the cuff.
